After a lovely hospitality day courtesy of Crystal Cruises at Sandown Park Ladies Day a couple of weeks ago, I thought I’d write a few lines surrounding the structure and plans of this amazing cruise line.

I met and was able to talk to, Edie Rodriguez who is their President and Chief Operating Officer.  She had managed to time dropping into this event with her husband, straight off their flight in to LHR from the US, and en-route to Stockholm where they were embarking the President’s voyage.

She was delightful and very charming, but it was easy to see that she was a force to be reckoned with, but she was genuinely interested to engage in conversation with me.

Her plans for Crystal (she only joined October 2013) are ‘seven ships for seven continents’ which is quite a leap from their fleet of two as things stand.  She says that this is a case of when and not if as the company is going strong and ripe for growth.

It is hoped that by the end of 2014 there should be further announcements on this front.  2015 is a celebratory year for Crystal Cruises as they reach their 25th Anniversary and these plans are on the back of the fact that as a brand they have plenty of equity to invest in their future.

UK guests have increased by circa 60% since 2012 which is partially attributable to their relationship with the trade and Edie’s feelings are that she would in fact be happy for 100% of the bookings to be done through the trade, though recognises that certain guests do still prefer to book direct.  As things stand they are probably have one of the highest percentage of bookings secured through trade partners, that being in region of 90%.
